ABOUT OUR COMPANY
The Poet's Study, Inc. is a family-owned Chicago printing business that has served funeral homes since 1939. We specialize in personalized memorial stationery, including prayer cards, memorial folders, bookmarks, and other keepsakes.
Much of our work involves Catholic prayers, religious imagery, and traditional funeral customs. Familiarity with these materials is helpful but not required. We serve families of all faiths and backgrounds.
We're a small, established business looking for someone interested in a stable, long-term position.
THE POSITION
We're looking for a dependable, detail-oriented person who enjoys working on computers, has a good eye for accuracy, and communicates well with people.
This is primarily a computer-based office position, not a general labor or printing position.
Your daily responsibilities will include:
• Prepare personalized prayer cards, memorial folders, and other printed materials using established templates.
• Enter, format, and proofread names, dates, prayers, and other customer-provided text.
• Edit and enhance photographs, including cropping, retouching, background removal, and color correction.
• Make layout adjustments and customer-requested revisions.
• Answer telephone calls and assist funeral directors and occasionally grieving family members.
• Organize digital files and help complete orders accurately within daily deadlines.
Our work is often repetitive and requires considerable attention to detail. Accuracy is especially important because the materials we produce are personal keepsakes for families who have lost a loved one.
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
• Good computer skills are required. You should already be comfortable using Windows, typing, managing files, and learning software.
• Strong spelling, grammar, and proofreading skills. Small errors matter in our business.
• Professional telephone communication. You must be comfortable speaking clearly, patiently, and compassionately with customers.
• Consistent attendance, punctuality, and a dependable work ethic.
• Ability to follow instructions, stay organized, and handle multiple orders and deadlines.
• Experience with Photoshop, photo editing, desktop publishing, or graphic design is helpful but not required.
We will train you on our software, templates, and production procedures, but basic computer proficiency is essential.
We value employees who are dependable, willing to learn, attentive to detail, and proud of producing accurate work.
